Pixar Post - T.J.

Toy Story of Terror
, Pixar's first television special is set to air ahead of this year's Halloween holiday in October. We have known for a while that the short will be about the toys' first journey outside of Bonnie's house....The official synopsis is...

"Bonnie is on a road trip to go see grandma with her mom and the toys are in the trunk. Mom gets a flat tire and they have to spend the night at a motel and all kinds of chaos ensues."

But we also found out that Michael Giacchino is slated to score the short - which is really exciting news as we're always excited to enjoy Michael's work.

Additional details can be found here.

We completely agree - We have a feeling that after the 30 minutes is up we're going to be left wanting more...since we're used to seeing the Toy Story gang for longer than 30 minutes (unless it's a Toy Story Toon).

Also, we like the fact that even though it's made for television it's still being treated like a full-fledged production.

Finally, since it's slated to show a lot of Mr. Pricklepants we're even more excited about that - he's so hilarious!

I am greatly anticipating more character development for Bonnie and of course to see more of Jessie!

Who doesn't love Bonnie - she's such an endearing character! I bet she'll only have a very small role in this though since it's 30 minutes. I bet they'll have to get right into it and put Jessie center stage in order to have enough time to set the story, create a situation, solve the problem and then get back on the road. It will be a great to see more of Jessie though!

I'm looking forward to this special, i love Toy story and Woody and Jessie are my favorites so i'm excited seeing more of her. I hope this special will release ASAP in Europe because i don't want to wait too long.

Wouldn't it be interesting if you saw more of Bonnie's mom? Normally, in the Toy Story series and shorts, you see only from the toy's perspective and occasionally, the kid's (Bonnie, Andy). Wouldn't it be cool if it showed Bonnie's mom's face more often. Like have frustration on her face when she is trying to change a flat tire or flag someone down for help. Then it pans back to the trunk where the toys are panicking.

A few, cool new details popped up at today's D23 Expo.

- The release date will be October 16, 2013 at 8:00 PM local time on ABC Network.

- The first 10 minutes of the short were aired during the keynote as well and we're summarized in Comingsoon's live blog coverage (at the 11:48 mark). If you're interested in reading the summary, you'll probably want to read it now - I'm not sure how long it will be up since it was a live stream.

- A new screenshot from the short was also officially released on Facebook this afternoon as well.

So, has anyone read the summary - if so, what did you think?  I couldn't stop laughing to myself thinking about how hilarious and fun this special is going to be. Let's just say that Mr. Pricklepants and Mr. Potato Head are hilarious! They're such great conduit characters that provide comic relief in between the other more lead characters.

I was also surprised that they showed 10 minutes of the short since it will only really be around 23-26 minutes when aired on TV due to commercials. So it was a little more than a third already shown. I bet when it airs, it's going to go by so fast!

Additionally, for anyone that saw the short in person, did you pay attention to the music - how was Michael Giacchino's score? Any notes here?

I love the Combat Carl reference from the first Toy Story film. I also think what's happening with Mr.Potatohead is pretty funny! But very unfortunately,I was not able to go due to higher authority. I am wondering, did Michael Giacchino maybe give a scary twist to the regular Toy Story music? I think he probably just made whole new music, but its a thought.

Read the summary.  Seems really interesting, but I'm a little disappointed about this according to IGN.

Toy Story OF TERROR begins with our toy heroes (well, most of them, as Hamm, Slinky Dog and Mrs. Potato Head apparently were left at home by Bonnie this time)

Why is it that Slinky always seems to get the shaft when it comes to subsequent Toy Story productions after the first one? He's such an integral part of the first film. Also, I can't help but feel a little upset neither John Ratzenberger nor Estelle Harris will be using their comedic chops in this horror story.

Oh well, I'm extremely excited that Jessie will star in this. What do you guys think?

I'm really happy we'll be seeing the Toy Story gang for a full half hour, instead of 6 minutes. It is a big jump that I'm looking forward to! It also serves as a great hold-me-over in between Monsters University and The Good Dinosaur.

I'm really excited to see Toy Story of Terror like probably everyone who has posted. Angus MacLane is one of my favorite Pixarians and I'd love to see what he does on a horror-themed project. It should definitely help tide me over until Inside Out hits theaters in 2015. Anyone else wanting another television special?

I am really looking forward to it! I think that the trailer that was just released really sums up the spirit of what the special probably will be, and the cat Pez dispenser looks like another memorable character added to the franchise! As usual, the closer it gets to a Pixar release, the longer the days.

"Ultimate iPad Expert", I have heard rumors about another Toy Story TV special, so let's all keep our fingers crossed! [smile]

Fingers crossed! Wonder what it could be about. And I agree about the PEZ dispenser guy. Great joke Pixar! I, like T.J., love the recurring goo before the toys go missing.
