So what do you know! Inside Out broke a record already! It made 3.7 million on thursday night which is the highest for any Pixar or Disney movie. It's actually quite far ahead, the second biggest is Monsters U with 2.6 million, followed by Big Hero 6 with 1.4 million and Frozen with 1.2 million.

So Inside Out beat Jurassic World for Friday box office sales with 34 million in comparison to 28 million.

Some of the trades are projecting Inside Out could reach $90 million this weekend. That would be incredible. It's still projected to come in behind Jurassic World but that movie is getting the benefit of extra money from being in 300 additional theaters as well as the increased surcharge from IMAX screens.

Either way, really great opening weekend for Pixar.

And in many countries (including the UK) it hasn't even come out yet!

“@ERCboxoffice: INSIDE OUT had the best debut ever for an original property scoring $91M--2nd best Pixar debut of all-time.”

RE: What PixarPug just posted...

Right -- and that's the part that's pretty amazing. What that means is, even though Jurassic World (barely) beat it at the box office, Inside Out did so well, that not only was it the 2nd highest Pixar opening ever (behind only Toy Story 3), and the best non-sequel Pixar opening ever... it was also the best opening of ANY original movie to date -- that is, a movie NOT based on pre-existing material such as a novel, comic book, or being a sequel. Of course it doesn't take into account inflation and ticket prices, but it's still a pretty neat feat: that a Pixar movie would have a bigger opening than any other original film in history up to now.

From the Hollywood Reporter:
"Inside Out also claims ownership to the top opening for any original movie, live-action or otherwise, that isn't based on sourced material, eclipsing the $77 million debut of Avatar. This feat is thanks to plenty of interest from both families (71 percent) and adults (21 percent). Teens made up the rest of ticket buyers (eight percent)."

Update: Inside Out is now the 3rd most successful film of the year with domestically with 353 million.

Jurassic World takes #1 spot with 649 million.
Avengers: Age of Ultron takes #2 spot with 458 million.

Worldwide Inside Out is at 761 million which is awesome! Still hasn´t opened in China so I predict Inside Out will be boosted quite a bit!

That's great news! Especially since China is such a big market. [smile]
