I think Coco has an advantage in most categories from the obvious challenges and techniques used, and has an excellent change for best animated feature with outstanding reviews and 3 of the 5 nominees being sequels.

Dang! Looking at all the nominees, what a disappointing year for animation. Literally Coco is the only movie I would place as great and above. Well, actually LEGO Batman Movie had a clever script but holy molly! Last year we had 3 amazing mainstream animated films in Zootopia, Moana and Kubo, and we also had a great one with Finding Dory. I will check out the BreadWinner as soon as it's possible as it looks to be the only potential animated film that could hold a candle to Coco, darn am i dissapointed with this years' animated films. If anything, all these films do is make me love Coco even more (if that's even possible)

@Luis the Best Animated Feature lineup may be pretty drab, especially since DreamWorks somehow managed to get both their films in over “Lego Batman,” but there’s some great selections in the Best Animated Feature Independent category! I loved both “The Breadwinner” and “Big Bad Fox & Other Tales,” and that category was so competitive that “Mary and the Witch’s Flower” and “Birdboy” both fell short. “Coco” may be the only good mainstream film of the year, but it’s also been perhaps the strongest year yet for independent animation.

Speaking of “Coco,” excellent work in all those Annie nominations! Of course, given the rapturous reception so far, this is to be expected. Additionally, although “Lou” came up short at the Annies, it did advance onto the shortlist for the Oscar, and has a chance of being nominated.
