I thought this deserved its own topic because we've wondered for a long now how this movie would be like and we finally have some small plot details.

What if you could meet your long dead family members?
The film centers around a 12 year old named Miguel, who grew up in rural Mexico. He sparks a chain of events linked to "a generations-old mystery that forever changes his fate." The film will explore Miguel's family history.

A clip shown at D23 Ex[p featured skeletons dancing to mariachi band music, when a skeleton mask falls off to reveal Miguel.

Toy Story 4, The Rock and More Highlights From Disney's D23 Animation Panel

So far I'm getting very interested in this. It has a Book of Life meets Brave vibe so far. I find it interesting how this has the changing fate sub-plot as well. I haven't seen the animation and concept art that they showed but people who saw it describe it as "macabre" and "vibrant". Very exited to see what Lee Unkrich and his team has under their sleeves and I can't wait to know more of this project.

The title..... Eh.. I will grow on me but so far I don't like it too much

Just now, I was like "the heck is Coco?!" - then I saw what category you had posted this in. WOW, it's gonna be hard getting used to the new title! [smile] Kinda neutral about how it sounds, but at least it's catchier than "Untitled film inspired by Dia De Los Muertos." [wink]

And YAY, it's coming in 2017! *___* I'd been angry with myself for spoiling myself so much on Inside Out, so I was disappointed that there wouldn't be original Pixar movies in the near future which I could enjoy unspoiled. Really looking forward to this.

The plot details actually don't sound appealing to me at all, though. [biggrin] But Pixar movies have a tendency to have boring descriptions; I'm not worried yet. I mean - it's Lee Unkrich. I'm still convinced Toy Story 3 is the greatest movie ever made. [wink]

Anyway, thanks for sharing, Luis! [smile]

EDIT: Oh, and tying into the running gag that's floating around on the net since Inside Out, I guess this one is now "what if ghosts had feelings?" [biggrin]

Quick impressions:

That logo looks awesome!
It's great that we're getting 2 Pixar movies in 2016.
Original movies are always welcome!
The plot looks interesting.

Oh yeah that gag!! I can't believe no one put 2013:What if Umbrellas had feelings. And its OK if it doesn't appeal to you at first. When I first heard about Ratatouille I was like "A rat that cooks at a restaurant in Paris" Lol no way that's going to be good. TURNED OUT TO BE A MASTERPIECE!! Lol, thank you for your insight! And yes, "Coco" doesn't sound very catchy or Pixary at all, but we'll see.

P.S - Pixary should now be an official word.

It's actually coming out in 2017 along with TS4, but you're right! It is such a relief there is an original in between all these sequels! [joy_80_anim_gif_zpsmv9th5wx]

Yep. That's an original movie alright. *Clings to it*

I don't know why, but I just REALLY want to see the protagonist. Everything sounds fine, but I just want to see what our main character looks like really badly. [Confused_zps36c72db0]

Definitely, but this movie is, after all 2 years away so I get why we are not seeing much of this.

I know. I just don't normally get so excited to see what the characters look like, so I mentioned it. Maybe Moana's reveal (and, I think Jack and Ima) earlier for Disney's recent stuff sort of piqued my interest in that department.

Dang!! Disney's line up was amazing!! I think Moana looks fantastic!! With the hole Pacific Ocean being the princesses friend and the villains being lava islands or something like that.

I like the name Coco. I like the design of the title, too. The story seems so-so, but I am sure the film will be great.

In the clip, they showed a complete rendering of Miguel. The clip was amazing by the way and ran about 2 minutes long 100% completed with great music. Miguel looks exactly like what a little 11 year old Mexican boy would look like in Pixar animation lol. When you see him you you'll be like " ok exactly what I thought." Cute face, classic Pixar big eyes, etc. it's a solid design and he looks like he'll be very likable.

I love how the main character will be named Miguel, aka what I was always called in my Spanish classes because my name is Mike.

All right, I gotta say that I'm not really looking forward to this movie. Never been a fan of the "Day of the Dead" or " Book of Life" type of films, so I'm pretty disappointing that Pixar's going in this direction. Additionally the title. It's kind of- I don't know, odd? But I got to admit, the logo kind of does capture the holiday feel...

Looks really interesting, the plot looks promising, same goes with the description of Miguel, since it's too early to tell, I feel like this is going to be a great movie
