Pixar Post - T.J.
Well, the rumors had been flying for quite some time and now it certainly will be true that one of the next versions of Disney Infinity will be focused on a Marvel-themed universe (based on this new video that Marvel uploaded to their YouTube channel). Thanks to our reader Cole S. for the heads up!

Exciting! But the thing I can't get out of my head is; 'Disney Infinity 2.0'. A completely new game? I'm more thinking of an expansion pack where you can still use your old figures etc. but only with a lot of new features.

I hope that Disney Infinity 2 isn't just going to be about Marvel characters. I really want to explore the infinite possibilities of Disney's traditionally animated movies. The only traditionally animated characters from movies that we have right now is sorcerer Mickey. Another thing I noticed is that most of the characters in Disney Infinity were in a movie or show from the past 10 years. I would like to play as classic characters as well as modern characters. I think that it would be a really risky thing doing just Marvel characters because they might lose some of their female demographic. I hope that this new Disney Infinity has some more female characters to throw into the mix. There are only eight female characters and only four of those female characters that can be used in play sets. Sorry this post is all over the place but I wanted to voice my opinions. Whatever they end up doing with this game you can bet that I will probably end up buying it. [Nerd_zps76dc97d3]

@Maxxxie03 - It will be interesting to see if you'll be able to use the Disney Infinity 1 characters in the Marvel version of the game (I would expect you could in the toy box). I have to assume that it will be Disney Infinity 2 since they announced it as 2.0. I would expect that to mean a new disc that you'll have to buy (since the last disc didn't have any code hidden in there for Marvel figures or anything like that).

@Wyoana - I actually agree with you 100%, I hope it isn't completely Marvel either. Now, there were some rumors flying around that there would be a Marvel edition and a standard edition so more news may still come - but for now, it sure seems that the angle is Marvel for sure. I also agree that they would certainly lose more of the female demographic for sure as the Marvel university is definitely leaning towards males.

I don't think it will necessarily draw away from girls. My best friend proudly wore her Avengers t-shirt to her school's "Disney Day".
But yes, I want more Disney/Pixar characters, and you're right! The only mentions in DI about the traditional characters besides Mickey, are the power discs such as the Peter Pan and Alice in Wonderland ones.

@Rachel Cranor While some girls (including myself) love Marvel but that isn't the case for all. For most girls they would rather play as a female character and when they think of superheroes in general they think of male superheroes. The reason behind that is because most of the popular superheroes are male. Due to The Avengers almost everyone knows of Iron MAN, SpiderMAN, the Hulk, Thor, and Captain America. Superheroes are typically male with a female spin-off counter part. I'm not saying that all girls who played the first Disney Infinity won't play the second one just because there are superheroes I'm just saying that for some girls who aren't into superheroes or don't know much about the female superheroes that the game does include might not play Disney Infinity 2. For example I don't really like playing in the Lone Ranger play set because I never saw the movie so I don't really care about the characters. If people don't know about a character or their backstory they may not feel as inclined to buy them so that they can play as them in the game.

I won't buy this game, but it got me thinking and I will share my thoughts about this, and say what I think of other people's comments on this topic.
I think that with a Marvel version, girls won't lose interest because in my opinion the same girls that are fans of Disney Infinity are probably fans of Marvel as well. Kind of like how if you like Vinylmation, you are probably a casual fan of POP Funkos.
I can not argue that male Superheroes are more common and popular than females, but I think that gender does not really enter the arena when it comes to the hero popularity.
Wyoana, you make a good point with the Marvel cinematic universe putting many Marvel superheroes on the map, and Black Widow is one of those heroes. She has made appearances in The Avengers, Iron Man 2, and Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
My bet is that the current Disney Infinity will keep getting new additions for a while, and that the "2.0 edition" will be more of a spin-off game. And, I would argue that to keep girls attention some Marvel heroins not featured in Marvel movies will make appearances.

@mac95 The only reason I didn't put Black Widow on my list of superheroes is because she doesn't have any special powers in the movies (in some continuities she has slowed aging) and I was just using the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a reference point.

So now I've been thinking more and more about Disney Infinity 2.0 and I want to know which specific characters other people want to see in the game. From the Marvel Universe I want Spiderman and Spiderwoman, Iron Man, Phoenix/Jean Gray, Captain America, Scarlett Witch, Wolverine, Sif, Thor, and Invisible Women. From Pixar movies would could have play sets for Finding Nemo and A Bug's Life. Then for traditionally animated movies we could have classic characters like Aurora and Maleficent, (which would be a great tie-in for the new movie) Mowgli, Baloo, Wendy and Peter Pan. For newer traditionally animated movies we could have Lilo, Stitch, Mulan, Belle, the Beast, Simba and Nala.

Do you guys think that they will use characters from the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy movie? I wouldn't mind playing as them. It would be a better cross promotion than The Lone Ranger play set.
