Today I was thinking about the Vince Caro episode of One Day at Disney shorts, on Disney+. It’s a series of ~5 documentary short films about employees of Disney and their subsidiaries recorded in early 2019 (I forget the exact date). In the Vince Caro episode, he mentions Bob Peterson and they show a video clip of Bob voice acting as Dug, and his lines are about going out to guard the yard after Carl feeds him breakfast, and he encounters a squirrel.

when the episode came out, I didn’t think much of it - either that it was an archival recording from Up; a warm-up for a newer voice role (such as his additional voice credit in Toy Story 4 or the announcer voice in Forky Asks A Question); or they called him to do something for One Day at Disney so they’d have a recording of him for the show that is relevant, in HD or higher quality, and not too old.

After Dug Days was announced and a clip was shown, it’s clear that Dug has access to a yard and lives with Carl and being a guard dog could be a good fit for one of the show’s episodes, and it’s already known there will be one about a squirrel. This could mean that the clip shown in One Day at Disney was actually for Dug Days and nobody realized it was for a then-unannounced show.

It is important to note that if it is an archival recording for Up, there is no scene in the film with Dug in a yard which decreases this as a possibility; and that in the One Day at Disney episode, they did use archival recording (or at least it appears to be so) of a scratch recording of “La Llorona,” one of the songs from Coco (2017).

What do you guys think? Is it what I initially thought (that’s it’s for something else like the aforementioned and just a coincidence), or was it for Dug Days and everyone overlooked the possibility of it being for new, then-unannounced content?

I found this book listing at Target called "Dug Meets the Puppies/Dug Versus Squirrel" by Natasha Bouchard. It releases September 28 and pre-orders are up now (it costs $5.99 and there's currently a 15% off books sale going on at time of writing which ends tomorrow (August 7)).

There's no cover yet but there is a synopsis which offers new details on the series:

Quote:
Two great stories based on Dug Days--the new Disney+ collection of shorts starring Dug the dog from Disney and Pixar's Up!

Boys and girls ages 3 to 7 and fans of Disney and Pixar's Up of all ages will delight in this deluxe Pictureback storybook that retells two episodes of Dug Days--and features the loveable dog Dug getting into all kinds of new and hilarious situations. This full-color book is packed with fun and comes with over 30 stickers!

Pixar Animation Studios' "Dug Days" is a new collection of shorts that follows the humorous misadventures of Dug, the lovable dog from "Up." Each short features everyday events that occur in and around Dug's backyard, all through the exciting (and delightfully distorted) eyes of our favorite talking dog. Written and directed by Academy Award(R) nominee and Emmy(R) Award winner Bob Peterson and produced by Kim Collins, the shorts premiere exclusively on Disney+ in Fall 2021.

The second paragraph sounds like it could be the synopsis for the series itself as opposed to the book.

Another new Dug Days item...

I honestly thought Alien Remix was done but now it's back with Dug Days with this new playset called "Carl and Dug's New Home." I'm not sure who the manufacturer is though.

Earlier than expected, surprised they announced the Sparkshort release dates before this considering it's coming out earlier, and that they are releasing all at once, but I'm not complaining

Just a quick note to everyone in the thread – everyone absolutely rocked it. If you go back and look through this thread, you can see how almost everything (from Brendan's first post) to the very end has come true. I was reviewing it this evening and was wowed to say the least! Excellent work everyone! Also, Dug Days - we'll be able to share more details tomorrow as well — these episodes are soooo good!

Here is our write-up and review of the Dug Days series. There are a few spoilers (though light) and we call out several of the Easter Eggs which you can keep an eye out for (although we don't tell you where to look).

One of the things we really enjoyed from our chat with Bob Peterson (voice of Dug, of course) was how they updated the character's rigs and gave them slightly new traits. Like, Carl stands more upright now, he rolls up his sleeves, and he moves a little more freely. This is because he's been on a big adventure, he's moving on from Ellie's loss, and Dug is helping him not be so grumpy.

We'll be sharing our full video interview with Bob Peterson and Kim Collins on September 1 (since it had too many specific details that we didn't want to give anything away)!

Glad we can have a few images now as well! I was surprised when they only released a poster for the press. Nice to see one of the screencaps from the show has the Toy Story 4 Ferris wheel in it! Nice Easter Egg!
