One of the most popular Youtube movie channels is HISHE. They always poke fun of movies and use their plot holes to make their hilarious videos. Although they poke fun of every major release, including the amazing films like Inside Out. They loved the movie actually, (I saw on twitter).

Here's the video were they re-imagine the turning of events for Inside Out, very funny if you ask me!

They totally addressed the one plot hole I noticed.

I like this video and I love HISHE, but there was so much more they could have done on top of this. [smile]
I love how we go into Joy's mind. I totally thought about that in the days leading up to the movie. For a second I thought it would turn into a paradox, and keep going into the head again and again.

I love HISHE. Their videos are hilarious and I love how they always find ways to poke fun at movies that we love. My favorite HISHE videos are Toy Story 3 and the original Star Wars trilogy.

Anyways, I actually thought about why Joy didn't just send the memories back to Headquarters during my first viewing of Inside Out.  One thing I wish they would've added to this HISHE video is why Riley is the only one we see in the movie to have both male and female emotions. We could've gotten some funny moments out of it. But with that aside, I still thought this video was hilarious.

I think people are over thinking the fact that Riley has male and female emotions. There's theories that it means she's a tomboy, sexually confused and even transgender!

For me, its really easy to see why. So the movie can appeal to boys as well.

Think about it, the movie takes place mostly inside of her mind, so if all the emotions were girls, it would make a pretty girly movie, thus making it harder to appeal to males.

I remember that purple haired pizza lady having both male and female emotions.

I think it's because she's a child, and when she becomes an adult. They turn all female like her mom.

I been having these thoughts too, just look at the credits scene, also half of the people's emotions are male and half of them are female (well the animals also count but that's another story)

I have a theory about this:

I think that when the emotions started out, they were mixed (male-female like in Riley's case) and when their person is old enough, they touch the puberty button (accidentally or coincidence) and transform into their person's gender

I don't think it has some secret hidden reason. Like Luis, I believe it is simply to appeal to both genders. Also, when they were making the film, my educated guess is they were focusing on Riley's emotions before the people around her. They went with whatever emotion felt right for a certain gender. And then with the parent's emotions, I think the choice of gender was pretty much for comedy.

I'm pretty sure Pete Docter has said that mixed gender emotions is the default, and the gender-skewed emotions of Mom and Dad was done for comedic/simplifying purposes (especially since that dinner scene is jumping between 4 sets and 18 characters), so there isn't some sort of intended secret subplot about bisexuality or transgenderism or lack of sexual maturity.

In regards to the HISHE video - absolutely loved it! I love how they addressed the plot hole but also showed us how if Joy fixed things the easy way then she wouldn't have learned anything and Riley would still be emotionally unhealthy.

As for the plot hole itself, I've convinced myself that it was Joy just being overprotective, but that's just my personal theory. After all, with the Mind Workers sending memories to the Dump despite Joy's protests, why would she entrust them (or anyone, in fact, after witnessing the memories' vulnerability to change emotion at the hands of Sadness) with something so important?

The real plot hole, I think, is how Joy and Sadness can get sucked into the memory tube but not Fear. The scene with Fear trying and failing to quit was clearly intentional but I still can't think of a reason why he can't be sucked up but Joy and Sadness can.
