I was wanting him to direct a Pixar feature! From the description, it sounds like a mix of La LunaCoco, and Onward. I wonder why this wasn't announced back on June 18 if it seems like it's still on track for 2021.

According to Pixar’s website, it’s coming out June 18, 2021. Hopefully that won’t have to change from COVID (or delays it may cause to other Disney films over the next few months), but I have seen articles quoting Kori Rae (Onward producer) and Steven Clay Hunter (Out SparkShort director) saying that remote working has been going well and all their films should be released on time (obviously as long as theaters are open (or if PVOD seems viable) and the production of other films doesn’t affect all of Disney’s release calendar).

Wait so is Luca the monster or his friend is?

According to Pixar's website they are both sea monsters.  Not sure if that's a typo.

Set in a beautiful seaside town on the Italian Riviera, Disney and Pixar’s original feature film “Luca” is a coming-of-age story about one young boy experiencing an unforgettable summer filled with gelato, pasta and endless scooter rides. Luca shares these adventures with his newfound best friend, but all the fun is threatened by a deeply-held secret: they are sea monsters from another world just below the water’s surface.

Or maybe Luca is nonbinary, but the other press releases with the plot description say He

It does say 'sea monsters' as plural so maybe they both are, I feel like the story is based around one of them being one though

We have confirmed with Pixar that the longline listed on Pixar‘s site is the correct announcement! They are both sea monsters - Whoa! Interesting!

Wow, that changes a lot about where I expected this film to go, really excited to see casting and a trailer for this

Huh, didn't even notice that.

This seems much less likely to lead to Current Cliche Ending, I'm all for it.

I saw someone on Reddit mention that the concept art was going to be the style (painting-like), but they didn't mention where they saw it. Enrico is definitely a Ghibli fan and I'm not sure of the art style, but I'd doubt they'd go the anime route. That being said, I'd love it if it had a nod to that style or a painting style. They've definitely been playing with art styles more with the SparkShorts so it's not out of the question that they would "play" with their signature look since it's been copied so much now.
Hi. I'm new by the way. Considering that you mentioned he's a Ghibli fan and that he tried to achieve a watercolor look with La Luna, I'm pretty confident that the film will be stylized.

I don't know if this is true because it came from Wikipedia, but it says that the composer for Luca is Thomas Newman.

That's interesting for sure about Thomas Newman. I wasn't able to see that note on Wikipedia - it's possible it was already removed/corrected? Do you have another link where it's showing — just curious if it has a footnote or not.

Yeah, it's already gone. I don't have another link though.

I do hope that Thomas will score the next Pixar movie after Luca though, I want him to do more films for Pixar.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Michael Giacchino does the score because he’s worked with Pixar a lot and he’s Italian himself.

I think so too. I'm expecting the composer to be Giacchino.
