Wow - during the 2017 Q4 Disney earnings call (Nov 9), Bob Iger revealed that a Monsters-themed television series was in development for inclusion in the launch of the Disney streaming service launching in late 2019. What are your thoughts regarding this announcement?

We're optimistic about it and frankly, we're such huge fans of the Monsters movies that we would love to see more from the gang. But, it will all depend on the quality, the content, and where it's produced. The first thing I asked myself was, "Will Pixar produce this, or will it be part of a Disney-TV group?" Also, who will voice Mike and Sulley? Will it be like the Buzz Lightyear of Star Command TV show where Tim Allen only voiced Buzz for the first long-form episode and then Patrick Warburton took over from there? So many questions, but I'm still very excited at the possibility.

You can read more from the announcement in our post here.

I think that Monsters Inc would be one of the top Pixar movies that could lend themselves to a TV series. With such a huge world with so many possible circumstances and with such fun and lovable characters, this could work! Color me intrigued!

I HOPE it will be a continuation of the first film (with the original cast) and not a spin-off with different characters!

First look at Tylor & Millie! Anyone know of this is concept art or the final design? Or if the show is 3D animated like the movies or 2D animated (like Buzz Lightyear Of Star Command)?

”Graduated from MU and ready for the real world. Get a new look at Monsters at Work’s Tylor and Millie, coming to Disney+ in 2020.”

It's probably too early for me to say, but perhaps the art style may be more stylized than the original film was? Like how Tangled and Big Hero 6 have their own animated series after their films and that has a more stylized cartoonish bent to them. I could see something like that work for the Monsters Inc. show; we'll have to wait to see more. As for the cast, was it confirmed that a lot of the originals were returning?

Monsters At Work will be 3D, but will be more of the quality from the first film — rendering the show to look like Monsters U would take too long...so, more like Monsters, Inc.

Oh, and Andrea — Jennifer Tilly, John Ratzenberger, Billy Crystal, and John Goodman were confirmed — more details here.

Awesome, that's wonderful news! I'm looking forward to seeing what they have in store for us. 🙂

According to CNET, Disney+ will structure the release of new episodes of its original series differently than Netflix - rather than dumping an entire season at once for fans to binge watch in a single weekend or so, they’ll release new episodes on a weekly basis. If I had to guess, a reason in doing that is to keep fans paying for the service as long as possible if they want to keep up with the shows (watch each episode when it opens) instead of cancelling after they’re caught up on a season after a weekend and resubscribing the following year for a month for the next season. Also works better with my schedule, being a high school senior so I won’t have a reason to not get off the TV when I’m supposed to be doing my homework because I’m binge watching Monsters at Work on its first day of streaming (if it were to follow Netflix’s strategy)!
