Lots of changes to the voice cast for TGD:

Part of the radical remodel of The Good Dinosaur includes a brand new cast. Raymond Ochoa, a young actor from NBC’s The Night Shift, will now play Arlo, the titular dinosaur (a role originally assigned to Lucas Neff); Jeffrey Wright, a wonderful character who has appeared in everything from Shaft to The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, will play Arlo’s father, Poppa (originally played by John Lithgow); Frances McDormand will be Momma, Arlo’s mother (she was cast originally!); and Marcus Scribner from blackish will play Buck, Arlo’s brother (replacing Inside Out’s Bill Hader, who played a different brother called Forrest). Neil Patrick Harris and Judy Greer once played members of Arlo’s extended family, but those characters been deleted altogether (thank goodness we can get our NPH fix at Disney California Adventure with World of Color and California Screamin’). New characters and cast members include Steve Zahn, from Steven Soderbergh’s brilliant Out of Sight, as a pterodactyl named Thunderclap; AJ Buckley (Justified) as a T-Rex called Nash; Anna Paquin (True Blood) as T-Rex Ramsey, and the velvety voiced Sam Elliott, from cult classic Road House (and a million other amazing movies and TV shows), as a tough T-Rex named Butch. Additionally, Arlo’s human friend, Spot, has been cast, with Jack Bright (Monsters University) essaying the character.

This is a slightly easier version to read:

Raymond Ochoa (The Night Shift) provides the voice of an Apatosaurus named Arlo.
Jeffrey Wright (The Hunger Games: Mockingjay) was tapped as the voice of Poppa, Arlo’s father.
Steve Zahn (Rescue Dawn) provides the voice of a pterodactyl named Thunderclap.
AJ Buckley (Justified) voices a T-Rex called Nash.
Anna Paquin (True Blood) is the voices of T-Rex Ramsey.
Sam Elliott (Justified) was called on as the voice of a tough T-Rex named Butch.
Frances McDormand (Fargo) was tapped as the voice of Momma, Arlo’s mother.
Marcus Scribner (black-ish) voices Arlo’s brother Buck.
Jack Bright (Monsters University) provides the voice of Arlo’s unlikely human friend, Spot.

I love that Sam Elliott is voicing the big T-Rex.

Fear-I mean Bill Hader is no longer in there? [Crying2_zpscd88994b]

That's the only actor I was really paying attention to. Though this is interesting, we know more of the names now. And, apparently either there's another t-rex we haven't seen, I'm reading wrong, or one of them's a girl, didn't see that coming.

Pixar Post - T.J.
Pixar wasn't joking when they said that everything for the movie was shaken up. Here's our post with some additional details as well. We're also going to pat ourselves on the back for a moment too - we speculated on our Live Hangout (when the teaser trailer was released) that the vocal cast was changing!

The updated vocal cast is comprised of:
  • Raymond Ochoa (NBC’s “The Night Shift,” TNT’s "Rizzoli & Isles," "Disney’s A Christmas Carol") provides the voice of an Apatosaurus named Arlo. Previously voiced by Lucas Neff.
  • Jeffrey Wright ("The Hunger Games: Mockingjay" - parts I & II, HBO's "Boardwalk Empire") was tapped as the voice of Poppa, Arlo’s father. Previously voiced by John Lithgow.
  • Steve Zahn (“Captain Fantastic,” “Ridiculous Six,” “Rescue Dawn,” “Mad Dogs”) provides the voice of a pterodactyl named Thunderclap.
  • A.J. Buckley (TNT’s “Murder in the First,” FX’s “Justified”) voices a T-Rex called Nash.
  • Anna Paquin (HBO’s “True Blood”) is the voice of T-Rex Ramsey.
  • Sam Elliott (FX's "Justified," "I’ll See You In My Dreams," “Grandma”) was called on as the voice of a tough T-Rex named Butch.
  • Frances McDormand (HBO's "Olive Kitteridge," "Fargo") was tapped as the voice of Momma, Arlo’s mother. Frances remained as Arlo's Mother from the original announcement.
  • Marcus Scribner (ABC’s “black•ish”) voices Arlo's brother Buck.
  • Jack Bright (“Monsters University”) provides the voice of Arlo’s unlikely human friend, Spot.
From the original vocal cast announcement at the 2013 D23 Expo, the following actors and characters were also jettisoned in favor of the revamped story.
  • Bill Hader - Arlo's Brother, Forrest
  • Neal Patrick Harris - Arlo's Brother, Cliff
  • Judy Greer - Arlo's Sister, Ivy

Arlo is voiced by a 13-year-old? I didn't see that one coming, I expected him to be around the age of 16. I'm sad to see people like Judy Greer and Bill Hader go but this is probably what's best for the film. Hopefully we'll be able to hear these voices in an actual full length trailer in a few months.

Really excited and sad about this as everyone (expect Frances McDormand) was cut off from the finished product, especially Bill Hader, but hey, we'll always have Fear [wink]

Also Spot will now be voiced by a teenager? Weird

Also Arlo now having one sibling instead of three is a blow but it's not their fault

Yeah, I'm pretty bummed out about Bill Hader, too. :/ But he's (in his own words) "a huge Pixar nerd" and the Pixar people seem to love what he did with Fear, so I'd say we can be reasonably sure that he's gonna join the ranks of the "recurring actors" (Bonnie Hunt, Dave Foley, Richard Kind, etc.) eventually. (Well, he technically already has, what with MU and all, but you know what I mean.)

Apart from that, there's no one that makes me jump for joy and no one that makes me wish for yet another story revamp, so I'm rather indifferent about this. [tongue]
(Didn't look at the characters' names, though, only at the actors' names.)
