I'm not sure if you guys have heard about it, but apparently the original name for Cars was Route 66. They decided on Cars instead, so that the movie wouldn't be confused with an older move with the name Route 66. I think that would have been a great title, except one thing. What would Cars 2 have been named? Route 66 2? Or would there have not been a Cars 2?

Ha! Yeah, the original working title was Route 66, but I think as time moved on changing it to Cars probably made more and more sense as the story developed further. Since we know John's inspiration for the movie was based on a road trip he took with his family, a working title of Route 66 made sense - but as the story broadened and started to involve race cars and life off of Route 66, it must have made sense to shorten the title to Cars

If the title was still Route 66, the title for Cars 2, would have had to have some silly subtitle in it, like..."Route 66: Races Around the Globe". Thinking even further out than that, what would Planes have been called? That would have thrown off a lot of other things if it was called Route 66! Good thing it changed!

I found the information on Pixar Wiki. The Cars Trivia page (http://pixar.wikia.com/Cars_Trivia) to be exact.

Talkingggg about original names, here's my random story: I have a big folder on my computer, and then a sub-folder for each Pixar movie where I go and collect all the posters/tidbits/everything on that movie. To make it fun, I decided to name each sub-folder not by its actual name, but by a famous thing or a quote from the movie or by an original name it once had in the past. So here goes:

- Toy Story:  To Infinity And Beyond!
- Bug's Life:  For the Colony
- Toy Story 2:  Woody's Round Up
- Monsters Inc:  We Scare Because We Care
- Finding Nemo:  Fish Are Friends Not Food!
- The Incredibles:  Secret Identity
- Cars:  Route 66
- Ratatouille:  Anyone Can Cook!
- Wall-E:  Rogue Robots
- Up:  Adventure Is Out There!
- Toy Story 3:  So Long Partner!
- Cars 2:  World Grand Prix
- Brave:  The Bear and the Bow
- Monsters University:  True Measure of a Monster

Can't wait to 'name' the next few movies! See, I'm so much fun.

It's funny how many times a movie's title can be changed (BTW you forgot one for Toy Story, You are a Toy), and lately it seems that the "girly" Disney/Pixar movies follow this pattern:

[588]
In case you can't read the small text it says:
Disney Princess Movies before and after name changes. "How can we improve these titles?" "...adjectives"

I know some people have given Lasseter a hard time to making movies with one-word titles before, but sometimes I think it works best for simplicity purposes.

As far as the name changes, you're right @Rachel, the girl-centric movies have had their titles simplified for sure. I'm glad that The Bear and the Bow was changed to Brave for sure though...I just couldn't imagine it with another name.  Also, Frozen is a much stronger title in my opinion as well.

By the way, I love the subtitles you use on your folders @Pricklepants

For the sequel to Route 66, it could have been called Route 66 vol. 2 just a guess though
