If you are an iOS user, you may know that iOS 10 came out a couple of days ago. What you may not know is that when you text, you can now not only text with Disney Emoji Blitz emojis, but with Disney stickers. Many developers have released app that cost $2 each that contain stickers to text with. Disney has taken part, releasing 11 iMessage apps from Disney, Pixar and Star Wars. Of the 11, two (2) are Pixar - Finding Dory and Inside Out.

Pixar Post - T.J.

We've been playing with it since the 13th when the new OS was released and they're a ton of fun. It's really neat to use them as emojis (like you're used to)...or by dragging them from the bottom up into ANYWHERE in the message history That's probably the best part that we've come across so far with them.

The quality and gif animations are great too - really well made. The only thing we wish is that they weren't $2 each. Since there are only 21 stickers in each pack...if you wanted to even get just the Pixar-themed ones it's $4...but if you wanted all 11 packs, that's $22. That's a lot just to occasionally use in a text message for fun.

Oh - and even though there are only 2 Pixar-themed packs, you can get Merida in the Disney Princess app and Dug in the Cats and Dogs pack.

Here's a link to all of the available Disney sticker packs on the iTunes store:
Finding Dory
Inside Out
Disney Princesses (with Merida)
Cats and Dogs pack
Star Wars - love the "thumbs up" BB-8 in this pack
Mickey & Friends
Lion King
Beauty and the Beast

What are your thoughts? Anyone else using them?

Although I love using the Inside Out stickers in Facebook messages, I can't see myself paying $3 (it's $3 here in Canada) for the same stickers for iMessage, a platform which I use less. Perhaps Disney feels like they can get away with such price gouging just because the iOS userbase has, historically and statistically, been extremely generous in parting with their money, especially compared to other platforms, but I don't think what they're charging here is worth it for me. I'm more than willing to pay a small premium for branded merchandise, which I've done not only with Disney and Pixar but also other companies (Studio Ghibli is surprisingly the worst - the mark ups they try (and succeed) in getting away with are extraordinary), but in this particular case, again, the same Inside Out stickers are available on Facebook for free, so I don't think it's worth it to pay $3 for the iMessage version.

The art style is very pleasing though — a very interesting approach in turning something 3D into something 2D. Or in the case of older films like The Lion King, updating the 2D visuals for a modernized look that fits better with today's messaging applications. There's a couple Disney-released sticker packs on Facebook from a couple years ago I think that took characters directly from 3D computer animated films (the Pixar and Frozen packs, I think) without any graphics changes to make them fit more smoothly in the rather flat, two dimensional look of modern messaging applications, but I can't imagine them doing the same for a hand-drawn feature like The Lion King.
