Some of you might know that some movie titles has different translations in other countries. So here's the Hungarian versions of the Pixar movie titles.
English version - Hungarian version (Meaning)
Toy Story - Játékháború (Toy War, used rarely)
A bug's life - Egy bogár élete
Monsters Inc. - Szörny RT. (Monster Inc.)
Finding Nemo - Némó nyomában (Some of the character names have been changed in Nemo, for example Dory is Senilla in the Hun version. Not sure why.)
Cars - Verdák
Ratatouille - L'ecsó
Wall-e - Wall-e
Up - Fel
Brave - Merida, a bátor (Merida the brave)
Monsters University - Szörny Egyetem (Monster University)
Inside out - Agymanók (Brain elves)
The good Dinosaur - Dínó tesó (Dino brother)

Hope you enjoyed. I skipped the sequels because it's the same thing. If I missed any of the titles please let me know.

"Brain Elves" made my day. [Laughing_zpsee77b0c4]

Is Ratatouille a different pun, or...?

Very interesting! The Brain Elves one is crazy! I would love to know why and how some of these decisions are made. I get why some of them change a bit to match local language changes and dialect changes - but some of the larger changes from Good Dino to Dino Brother really intrigue me!

I found this article. It basically says that the translator can change the title for the need of the target audience (or something like that)

As for Japan:

The Incredibles = Mr. Incredible
Ratatouille = Remî no oishii resutoran
WALL-E = Uôrî
Up = Grandpa Carl's Flying House (really love this one)
Brave = Merida and the Terrible Forest
Monsters University = Monsutâzu yunibâshiti
Inside Out = Inside Head

The Japanese titles for Up and Brave are awesome! So descriptive! I wonder how Grandpa got thrown in there...since he didn't have kids he wasn't technically a Grandfather...unless it was adoptive to Russell...or just generalizing because he's old?!

Interesting topic. I could contribute the German titles. And to state that outright, yes, I hate almost all of the translations. [wink]

Toy Story: Toy Story (Actually untranslated.)
A Bug's Life: Das große Krabbeln (The big... crawl? I don't even know how to translate that.)
Toy Story 2: Toy Story 2 (Untranslated.)
Monsters, Inc.: Die Monster-AG (Monsters, Inc.)
Finding Nemo: Findet Nemo (Find Nemo)
The Incredibles: Die Unglaublichen (The Incredibles)
Cars: Cars (Untranslated.)
Ratatouille: Ratatouille (Untranslated.)
WALL-E: WALL-E (Untranslated.)
Up: Oben (Above)
Toy Story 3: Toy Story 3 (Untranslated.)
Cars 2: Cars 2 (Untranslated.)
Brave: Merida - Legende der Highlands (Merida - Legend of the Highlands)
Monsters University: Die Monster-Uni (The Monster University)
Inside Out: Alles steht Kopf (Everything is upside down. Horrible pun because "Kopf" is "head.")
The Good Dinosaur: Arlo und Spot (Arlo and Spot. No, I'm not kidding.)

To elaborate on why I'm being so uncharacteristically vocal about my distaste here: The people who name German movies have the tendency to stuff moronic puns into perfectly acceptable movie titles just to make them, er, "funny."

Non-Pixar examples are:
Frozen: Die Eiskönigin - völlig unverfroren (The ice queen - completely unfrozen/unabashed. Another pun.)
Tangled: Rapunzel - frisch verföhnt (Rapunzel - recently blow-dried. "Verföhnt" is not a word but sounds like "verwöhnt," which is "fastidious.")
Big Hero 6: Baymax - Riesiges Robowabohu (Baymax - great Robowabohu. No, that latter one is not a word in German, either.)

Sorry, I needed to let off steam there. [wink]

So far it appears that Brave may have the most variance with the titles - forrest, highlands, rebel - interesting!

Also, I can't believe the puns they add on German titles - the Rapunzel one is just plain crazy! They make it sound more like the straight-to-DVD releases when they add the "punny" subtitles.
