This past week Pixar has been doing some exciting stuff at Cannes and today John Lasseter previewed The Good Dinosaur. This article features the first details about the new version of the film as well as some MAJOR SPOILERS (!!!) about the tragic event that was mentioned in of the synopses (the article basically reveals what the tragic event is).

Spoiler discussion starting here:

Still here? Let's discuss! Read the article here: http://t.co/O0SY4rwY4J

The technical achievements sound great, but I think we should discuss the story first. So it turns out that the tragic event mentioned in the synopsis is that Arlo's father dies, pretty tragic. It's also interesting that the article still mentions the whole farming thing, what do you guys think? Is it still in the film after all?

The described scenes sound touching and really beautiful and I really can't wait for a trailer now.

It also looks like Thomas Newman is no longer composing the score, but instead Life Of Pi’s Mychael Danna is providing the score.

Share your thoughts on this news below! I can't wait to discuss this with you guys!

Variety article about the presentation. Lasseter also discussed Finding Dory, Toy Story 4 and two upcoming WDAS films: http://variety.com/2015/film/news/cannes-john-lasseter-on-secrets-of-toy-story-4-the-good-dinosaur-and-disneypixar-slate-1201501427/

Oh,man, it's great! I've already loved this characters... about twigs in the sand-really genius. Also Lasseter's intriguing about Danna's score. Maybe, they will use some new instruments for orchestra to show the ancient atmosphere as it should be...

Good stuff in those articles.

- Really excited to see these visuals/backgrounds after reading this feedback.
- Pretty shocked John revealed the details of the tragic event already
- hope we get to see the images of the triceratops, pterodactyl and velociraptors soon (assuming they aren't in the upcoming teaser)

Yeah, I was wondering that as well - seems like an interesting choice for sure. Part of my brain still tells me that someone got some wires crossed and it won't be Danna (since he's also doing Sanjay's Super Team), but we shall see how it turns out - I like your thoughts on the atmospheric elements.

I was shocked that they revealed the tragic event as well. I guess it's not a rare story element though - it's the classic Disney base formula.

That reminds me T.J, i became a Pixar fan after watching Up so I didn't read the plot synopsis. I don't know if you recall, but before Up came out, was Ellie's death part of the plot or was that kept secret till the movie came out theatrically?

Yeah, that was a secret. Pixar led to the release "Up" with no explanation about this plot element. We couldn't understand from the trailers about Carl's tragedy. So,that's a good thing in Pixar's marketing.

Well, without getting too off topic...the original synopsis (as Carloody657 mentioned) didn't include a note about Ellie at all really. Here's the official synopsis when it was released in 2008.

UP (Domestic Release Date: May 29th, 2009, Disney Digital 3-D(TM))
Pixar Animation Studios
Director: Pete Docter
Co-Director: Bob Peterson
Producer: Jonas Rivera
Writer: Bob Peterson Voice Talent: Ed Asner, Christopher Plummer, John Ratzenberger, Jordan Nagai

From the Academy Award(R)-nominated team of director Pete Docter
("Monsters, Inc.") and co-director Bob Peterson comes "Up," a comedic
adventure taking off (and lifting spirits) in summer 2009. Carl Fredricksen
spent his entire life dreaming of exploring the globe and experiencing life
to its fullest. But at age 78, life seems to have passed him by, until a
twist of fate (and a persistent 8-year old Wilderness Explorer named
Russell) gives him a new lease on life. "Up" takes audiences on a thrilling
journey where the unlikely pair encounter wild terrain, unexpected villains
and jungle creatures. When seeking adventure next summer -- look "Up."

Thank you guys! But in this day and age trailers and plots reveal more of the movie, i don't know if hollywood is having trouble getting butts in their seats but regardless! I'm exited for the upcoming Pixar offerings! BRING THEM ON!

Then story sounds absolutely fantastic! It looks to be very heartfelt, personal and warm story. The relationship between Arlo and Spot really appeals to me. I am also happy to see that the Velociraptors will have feathers, as they used to. I am very anxious to see the visuals they've cooked up! Will it be in the style of The Blue Umbrella?

I was under the impression that The Good Dinosaur took place in 2015. It makes sense, doesn't it? It isn't like it would take place 65 million years ago-- humans were obviously not around then.

I've always been a sucker for "a boy and his dog" stories and am a big fan of dinosaurs so I'm 100% on board with this.
