So usually when a new Pixar film comes out we can all kind of imagine the main story through the synopsis and information that has been revealed during conventions and presentations, but with Inside Out we hardly know anything about the film's main story, how is this concept going to entertain us in a 90-minute feature? I know the geniuses over at Pixar came up with an amazing story and we don't have to worry about it but lets discuss the story and speculate about it.

So we know that the main concept of the film is that an 11-year old girl moves from the mid-west to San Fransisco with her family and we can see what happens inside her mind. Two of her emotions, Joy and Sadness get lost inside the mind. That's all we really know so far.

The concept is genius but how is this going to move along a 90-minute film? Let's speculate about the story!

I know there is a lot that we don't know anything about the film yet (there are still new characters to be revealed) but I personally think that the main story could be that some of Riley's memories get lost inside her mind and that it is Joy and Sadness' job to find them and return them home to the Headquarters. We've seen a still of Joy with a bag in her hands so it could be that some of the found memory orbs are in that bag.

What do you guys think?

I think that the story that we get so far is 60 % of what will basically we will see in most of the film . introduce to rilley from her baby years and how she grew with her emotions in the years .her dad tell her that they have to move to a new city. rilley starts to feel sad and lock in her room maybe .. in this time sadness and joy get lost and they move to the new city. she go to a new school starts to play hockey in a new team maybe. we will see sadness and joy in their journey while the other emotions surviving in the new place. this is how i pictured it on my brain.

I heard that Joy and Sadness get into a fight, which is what causes them to get lost, but I don't know if that is official information yet.

I presume Joy and Sadness get lost in some kind of accident, it seems unlikely they'd purposefully make Joy leave Headquarters since she's supposed to be in charge and may or may not be only one who can make Riley be positive.

If they do leave Headquarters for something related to the memories, maybe Bing Bong or the unicorn find the memories (either loose ones or ones the emotions already have) and don't want to give them up.

Well but if it is true that when for example Sadness touches a positive memory orb it turns into a sad memory, Joy is the only one who can save the memories + keep them happy memories.

She could just touch them when they get brought back, though.

And going that route it should either just be her, since Sadness would wreck memories, or it should be everyone, so no memories get mixed up.

Or they could just scoop them up without touching them.

I wonder if a very specific, important memory gets lost due to the falling out between Joy & Sandess (hence the photo of Joy in the memory library, with the purple backpack.) I wonder if retrieving this lost memory before it's "too late" will end up saving the day.

Also, interesting to note...Bing Bong is described as a cotton candy elephant who cries candy. The bag Joy has is made of candy print fabric. Perhaps Bing Bong gives her the bag to use?

Whether this description ends up coming true or not, this is brilliant! I love the thought put retrieving the memory and the candy print bag coming from Bing Bong!

I think this is one of Pixars most story holding projects,i mean, with them keeping Bing Bong secret, but who knows

I wonder if Bing Bong has any sort of control over Riley's creativity? I saw that on one of the book covers, Joy was juggling memory orbs and standing on top of a big pink memory orb. I was trying to figure out what the purpose of the pink one could be and how it could tie into the story. Like maybe it's creative memories, and as she goes from childhood to adulthood maybe they diminish??? I really have no idea. I don't know what the whole story could involve; cuz pixar has done a good job of hiding it lol.
