So what do we all think?  Given what's been made of the "painterly realism" of the natural world portrayed in The Good Dinosaur,  it seems like it practically begs for seeing it in 3D.  BUT... I'm quite ambivalent about 3D in general. So....

I'm asking if you all will be seeing it in 3D for sure, or sticking with clean, crisp 2D digital projection?

I don't usually pay for 3D due to somewhat irritating my eyes and I'm cheap. [wink] However The Good Dinosaur definitely seems worth it and will enhance the experience. (the landscapes are going to be incredible!)

I'm interested to see it in 3D, but it's never my first choice. I usually see it my first time or two in 2D and then see it in 3D for review purposes...but again, I'm just like you in that I don't really prefer it...and I'd rather not spend the extra $3-5 since I don't think it enhances it too much.

As I've talked about before as well, Pixar's 3D is usually much more tastefully used than other films. I don't see ANY film outside of Pixar's in 3D unless there are no other options available.

I saw Toy Story 3 in 3d and the only 3d moments were the advertisements, the movie title, and the garbage dump scene at the end. It seems like the only movie that's ever been worth seeing in 3d is Avatar DX

I generally avoid 3D unless there are no other options or there's a reason I should see it in 3D, since most of the time it just seems like a silly gimmick. I've seen Inside Out in 3D and in 2D both two or three times and I've honestly noticed like almost zero difference — because at the end of the day, and this is especially true for Pixar films, it's the story that counts, not the visuals. John Lasseter once said that no amount of animation can cover up a bad story.

But then TGD is doing this thing with the breathtaking visuals so maybe the 3D will be worth it?

With Inside Out, I didn't find much wow factor with the 3D (which I only did once during the theatrical run), yet that usually won't stop me from buying the same film on Blu-Ray in 3D, since we still have a working 3D hookup and still need content for it. Only saw it once in 3D, and might've found it a bit distracting. Also, the added premium is slowly becoming a luxury I might not be willing to pay for so often. It helps if you wind up seeing most of your films early with the press, so the 3D is free whenever applicable.

The same will apply for Dino. It will boil down to how much I'd want to pay for my ticket, since I'm on a bit of a budget. My first viewing will be in 2D, unless I win VIP entry to Tuesday night's press screening (I know, directly back to back with the first public showtimes, which is a bit unfortunate), which will likely be in 3D. Otherwise, I'll see how it looks in that premium format later on, a week or two later, probably. I'm ashamed to say, I haven't paid much attention to what folks have been saying about the "realistic artistry", given my lack of free time recently, but I'm sure my eyes will widen up and water when I'm in that room.
