Pixar Post - T.J.
Hey everyone,

So, Tomorrowland is really looking really interesting to us and from what I've seen in the trailer, I'm totally "in". The visuals when Casey (the young female lead character) touches the Tomorrowland pin sold me enough to want to see the movie (well, and that it's Brad Bird's film too)! [Winking_zps1d9118ce]

Either way, forum user miafka on the Pixar Planet forums, who writes about the amazing insights and process of scoring Pixar's films, has also written up a few very intriguing notes about scoring Tomorrowland and how they recorded some of the film's cues in reverse...and then reversed them to play them forward (ending up being "regular"). Wow, that's super cool and like he said, "if" they are used in the movie, it could make for some really interesting moments and sounds. It could totally play into the uniqueness of the film. Here is a snippet of his writeup...

miafka wrote:
One little interesting thing: after recording all the music cues for the movie normally all week, at the very end of the final day, we returned to just a few of the cues (just a handful), and with revised, newly-printed parts, recorded them in retrograde (reverse), with everything printed backwards (notes, dynamics, tempo changes... everything). In other words, if the original version was "A, B, C#, D, E getting louder", then this time we played "E, D, C#, B, A getting softer." Then they will digitally "reverse the reverse" (reverse the retrograde version), which will make it sound kind of like the original version of the cue

Check out his additional details on the scoring session here - what are your thoughts on the film in general...and on miafka's scoring notes? I'm personally even more intrigued for sure now!!

Also, be sure to check out the additional posts and notes from miafka on the other Pixar film's he's worked on here for Inside Out, here for WALL-E and here for Up.

I'm totally excited to see this film as well, not only for the reasons stated, but also Brad Bird turned down Star Wars VII to work on Tomorrowland. That's plenty enough to excite me, also that most recent trailer was great!

Just watched this today and it's an excellent movie! I like that I didn't know what to expect going into it. The acting was really good, the concept was thought provoking, and it had some nice action. Definitely recommend it!

Going to see it tomorrow morning but I heard the score on iTunes so it's good
Giacchino's score is getting better since Up and I think Inside Out will really put it up
Also my favorite part of the score is 'Pins of a Feather' is so beautiful

I'm seeing Tomorrowland today! I'm excited.

In the UK it's called Tomorrowland: A World Beyond due to a festival in Belgium called Tomorrowland. In some other countries it's called Project T.

One of the Tomorrowland themes actually reminded me a little of the Alma mater theme in Monsters University lol! But yes enjoy the movie guys, I really liked it!
