Amidst updated premiere dates for a pair of midseason dramas and their newest cycle of Dancing With the Stars, ABC confirmed the following exciting news!

Looks like this won't be as quiet a year for us Pixar fans after all!

Quote:

“TOY STORY THAT TIME FORGOT” (Holiday 2014)

“Toy Story That Time Forgot,” Disney•Pixar’s new Christmas special featuring your favorite characters from the “Toy Story” films, will air during the holidays this year on ABC. The special comes on the heels of the success of “Toy Story OF TERROR!,” which premiered to stellar ratings this past October.

During a post-Christmas play date, the “Toy Story” gang find themselves in uncharted territory when the coolest set of action figures ever turn out to be dangerously delusional. It's all up to Trixie, the triceratops, if the gang hopes to return to Bonnie's room in this “Toy Story That Time Forgot.”

Thanks for posting this Joe! I was wrapping up writing our post on the topic so you beat me to it! [smile] We ended up writing a bunch of details in our post, but I'm interested to see what everyone thinks may happen with the storyline - how will the Toy Story gang interact with the delusional action figures?

We also know that a ton of our favorite actors will continue to voice the beloved characters with Tom Hanks as Woody, Tim Allen as Buzz, Kristen Schaal as Trixie, Kevin McKidd as Reptillus Maximus, Wallace Shawn as Rex,Timothy Dalton as Mr. Pricklepants (glad to see he's back again since he was so hilarious in Toy Story of Terror!), Don Rickles as Mr. Potato Head and Joan Cusack as Jessie.

Read even more details in our post here - http://www.pixarpost.com/2014/01/toy-story-that-time-forgot-christmas.html

By the way, Joe you are completely right when you say

"Dangerously delusional" as opposed to "harmlessly delusional", aka Buzz "You have my pity" Lightyear [wink]?

Can't wait to see how Buzz and the gang handle delusion in this episode.

Yeah, it looks like 2014 might not be the year with Pixar with Party Central and this! Woo-hoo!!!

Something I'm interested in is what the title "That Time Forgot" could be referring to? Could it be another emotional experience that a toy has gone through? Check out my post here to discuss potential future subject matters for Toy Story shorts and specials!

Woo-Hoo! Trixie is a personal favorite of mine because of her fun personality, great voice acting by Kristen Schaal, and that the Triceratops is my favorite dinosaur!
I think that the title, "Toy Story That Time Forgot" is a direct spoof, or parody, of the 70's film, "The Land That Time Forgot" which is about dinosaurs! It's gonna be great, so happy to see Pixar venturing into the world of television specials.
The only thing I don't like about this is that now I'll be staring at the clock for a year! Hahaha!

Great insight mac95! Very well could be a play on that movie title since the central character will be a dinosaur : ) Nice catch, looking forward to hearing more details later this year!

What if it references various deleted scenes from the previous movies, especially the original yet scrapped Tin Toy Christmas!

And it might not be that quiet guys, I think that Toy Story of Terror will now become an annual watch, just like Charlie Brown. Plus what if they re-release some favorites during the summer just cause they can!

And delusions? Love it! It'll be like Toy Story all over again. But it says "dangerously." Are they so delusional that they don't even freeze when Bonnie or her mom comes?

So, I've got to ask @mac95, where did you remember The Land That Time Forgot from? Have you seen the 70's movie or the 2000's remake? I can tell you that you're completely on to something here and we discussed this at length during episode 24 of the Pixar Post Podcast.

We are inviting everyone to read the Land That Time Forgot book as well since we'll be discussing it on the next podcast episode (#25). It's going to be a great episode as we try and crack this open to find how the stories may connect. Like I mentioned, we already started to discuss some of the ways that we see similarities, but would love everyone else's input as well. We'll post more details as we get closer to recording the podcast (in a week or two).

By the way, the good news is that the book is actually free on Amazon (for Kindle readers) and it's also free on Apple's iBook Store. Feel free to click the links to download it.

Excellent find @mac95 - it will be interesting to see how this pans out!

Hi T.J.,
Honestly, I think I just picked up the title from somewhere! You know, when you are not sure where you learned something, sometimes you just know...
When I found out the name of the special from your post, I knew I had to look in deeper because it just seemed to much like Pixar was mimicking the title of the film. So I did a quick Google search, and here I am! I am getting the book in about a week, I'm really looking forward to it now!
Thanks for saying I sometimes have good insights...[smile]
I'll try to keep all my posts with good insights!

Something I also wonder is, since Trixie seems pretty central in this, if we'll finally get a full size thinkway or disney store toy of her! How cool would that be to finally have her to go with Rex?

I hope they do, Dan! They made a full-sized Chunk, Twitch, and I think Sparks with the release of Toy Story 3 even though they are not major characters. I actually saw a Trixie themed flashlight that popped up in stores around the release of Toy Story of TERROR! and of course she was a character in that special, so it may have inspired the Trixie merch.

I really like the texture of the plastic on Rex, so hopefully they'll use the same texture on Trixie, if they make her at all.

Ha! Of course - if you have good insights to something, it's worth calling it out! I even talked about it with Dan - I think you are the first person that came up with the connection across all the sites out there. I still am not sure 100% how they'll play off of the story...but my brain keeps telling me that you have to be right! I'm almost done with the book and I have some insights that I'll be sharing on our next show, but in the meantime we can't wait to hear your thoughts as well. If you come up with any insights, leave us a voicemail on our Pixar Post line (415) 799-POST (7678).

Also, Dan - yes, a Thinkway version would be amazing!! She definitely deserves one with Dolly, Mr. Pricklepants and Buttercup having been released before.

I just finished the book, The Land That Time Forgot! Wow, it was so good!
I think that Pixar will maybe(and I am saying maybe because we don't have a ton of info on the special yet) focus less on the first half of the book where Bowen and his companions are on the submarine, and more on the world building of the continent of Caprona/Caspak. It is going to be really interesting to see how the Toy Story equivilant of Caspak plays out! I was thinking that the lush, deadly vast jungles could be shredded wrapping paper(because it is post-Christmas) and assorted household junk.

And well I strongly believe the coolest action figures ever will be the equivilants of the German soldiers, I have considered the idea they could be the different tribes of cavemen on the island. As in, they could be cavemen action figures and really try to attack Woody and the gang.

I also came across the Nobs character in the book. For those who don't know, Nobs is Bowen's faithful dog who a companies him on much of his journey. I am pretty sure that Bullseye will hopefully be a Nobs stand-in for the special. Bullseye does not speak, so that explains why he wasn't listed in the cast. And I thought, maybe Woody will be a Bowen stand-in, because Bullseye is like HIS faithful dog!

Speaking of cast, I re-read it and realized that they are the same characters that populated Toy Story of TERROR, with an exception of Reptillus Maximum. This was very dissapointing.

There needs to be a bunch of new characters in Toy Story That Time Forgot.

Like maybe the new toys help the other toys get back to Bonnie's room. They get up on a rope toy, escape from the room, enter the vent, and find Bonnie's room.
