I think I would expect it to be G, for the reason Ultimate iPad Expert brought up.

Previous ratings seem to suggest that you can blow up or kill as much toys, cars, fish or robots as you want, all that matters is whether humans are the main characters or not... Heck, they even rated Cars 2, a film with as much (if not more) action as The Incredibles, G! Note also that no Pixar movie to date has received a PG rating for "thematic elements", only for "peril" and "action"; so I am unsure if how emotional the story becomes is a factor to them (although BH6 did get a PG for that... but Tadashi was a human...).

So, since Inside Out is centered not on humans but on emotions, and that we can expect all/most of the action takes place in the mind, I'd expect to see it rated G... Unless something pretty cruel/frightening happens to Riley in the film.

Then again, the emotions look like humans, only colored differently (with mainly the exception of Anger).

Gray Catbird, completely agree. Those are the exact reasons I could also see it G as well. It does seem like action involving anything but humans helps keep it a G rating. SO- you may have changed my mind more towards G, but I guess I'm still on the fence! Great points though. [smile]

Blech. It always kind of bugs me that their human focused movies are always the only ones to hit PG. There's something distinctly unsettling to me that we're apparently okay with terrible things happening so long as they don't happen to us (or at least things that look like us).

Probably a safe bet no one will blow up, be tortured, or be showed any corpses in this movie.

Well, what do you know! The cycle is broken: Inside Out is rated PG for "thematic elements and some action": http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/tomorrowland-inside-out-water-diviner-unfriended-and-more-in-todays-mpaa-ratings/

This is a first in a few regards...

See guys.

It's rated PG because Disney wants it to be rated PG, so I guess it is a pretty dark movie then, right?

What says Disney wants it to be rated PG?

Did you delete your post and repost it? I know this info was up when I made my other post. [Confused_zps36c72db0]

No, I didn't? Before posting I checked if anyone had relayed the info on this site, and all I saw was your previous post... But this news has been out for 3-4 hours now, so maybe you read about it somewhere else?

It was definitely here, I made my post in response to it confirming the rating.

Maybe someone else made a post and deleted it, I didn't really check the username.

Weird.

I was actually gonna post with this question as well! Hmmmm, it's really tough. I'd have to go with my gut though and say PG. However, all the Pixar movies that are G also have some "intense" and or emotional/thematic moments (look at Monsters Inc., Finding Nemo, Toy Story 3 or Cars 2..heck all them!) so it's ultimately really hard to guess - I could see it being G just as much since the majority of Pixar films are G. It's often hard to see where the G/PG line is. We'll see soon enough I'm sure!

So true; I mean, in Monsters Inc Randall was strangling Sulley and trying to kill him and Mike, and there were some other parts that might seem "frightening to kids," and the Sid bits in Toy Story would be creepy to kids, but maybe when these movies were made the rating system wasn't as harsh.

If it is the rating, this is the fourth Pixar film to be rated PG. I'm fine with it, but I'm confused about the "action" part
The Incredibles, Up and Brave have some, but inside the mind(maybe on the outside)? I don't know

Hey Bonnie- Yah I had posted it originally here. I was the one you responded to, but somehow it was deleted later when I checked and then people had already started talking about it so I left it be. I don't know what happened?? Strange, maybe I deleted it by accident.

Inside Out has been rated PG.
You can go here: http://filmratings.com/search.html?filmTitle=inside+out&x=34&y=12
to see the rating it was given, and why.

Inside Out (2015)
RATING: PG
REASON: Rated PG for mild thematic elements and some action.
DISTRIBUTOR: Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures

The site also lists the rating given for something called "Riley's First Date":
http://filmratings.com/search.html?filmTitle=riley%27s&x=48&y=10

Riley's First Date (2015)
RATING: G
DISTRIBUTOR: Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment

As far as what this title is, people are already speculating what this might possibly be:
http://www.stitchkingdom.com/disney-speculation-rileys-date-inside-out-short-bluray-74926/

But at any rate, "Inside Out" has received a PG rating.
