Oh yeah, I would absolutely love to see a villain who's emotionally close to the protagonist like you suggested with Tadashi; I mean, I think I also would've liked it if he were the villain, make no mistake. He would've been a more developed villain than Callaghan, that's for sure, given the wide amount of screen time he has. What his motive would be I'm not sure though. As far as villain twists that haven't been done, another that Pixar in particular hasn't done is a redeemed main villain yet. That would also shake things up a bit. Or heck, the villain and hero switching places or something. From what we know of Pixar's scheduled release, I'm guessing that most of them will go the no-villain route until Incredibles 2 comes out, which I'd assume would have a traditional villain. I'm ok with mostly no villains and one traditional villain, since it'd give the twist villain a break for a while and keep it from becoming more saturated--truth be told, I like twist villains in a general sense and hate seeing it overused and be awash in wasted potential, and thus get backlash. As for Disney, I wonder what Moana will do in terms of villains?

Re: Lotso---I'm glad for people like you who have kept up with Pixar movies before I started keeping up with news in 2013. I went to see Toy Story 3 when I was 15, but I was living under a rock when it came to movies and pop culture, so I didn't know of TS3's existence until the actual day my grandma said she'll take me, my brother, and cousins to see TS3. Even though I entered with a clean slate, I still knew Lotso was the villain as soon as I saw him lol. So that twist is virtually nonexistent. Interesting that commercials didn't care to cover it up either.

And wow, Randall a twist villain, I see that technically that's right but wow what a failure of a twist lol. I heard that Pixar was originally going to have him as a good guy and Sulley as a janitor. I can't tell you how glad I am that they went with the final product, because Sulley's final characterization is awesome and Randall is a good villain. Yes, that's what I like about the Waternoose and Randall dynamic, they both have their own objectives, a strained relationship, and Randall isn't just a mindless cronie like Lotso's minions. On the other hand, having a jerk character like Randall not actually be the villain would be a twist in and of itself--though they played with that by having him not be the mastermind.

They've released a list of the Blu-Ray special features.

There's no commentary. I don't know if I've mentioned this on this forum yet, (I know I've mentioned how much I like them) but I'm getting very ticked off at how often companies are shirking commentaries now. Disney hasn't included one since 2009.

I might not even bother to buy it now.

They'd probably need to mess around with the plot a bit to make a motivation for Tadashi. If they were to just like lift the first third of the movie wholesale and just change the last two parts it'd probably be hard to work something in.

I don't think Disney's redeemed a main villain yet, either. Like Pixar, they only seem to redeem people if there's someone left to still be evil. They've had misunderstandings a couple times, which I guess is close.

Moana seems like it'd be the kind of thing that'd be open to a traditional villain to me. Not sure why. Maybe because it seems like a very adventure-esque movie.

Oh I wasn't really keeping up. I just remember that at the time the movie came out Disney had these little min-shows during commercials that would go over their home video releases (I don't know if they still have those, they probably do), and they went over Toy Story 3 and rapped about it (you know, the kind of thing so bad it ingrains itself into your head out of sheer pain?), and they just blatantly gave it away in there. I also read after the fact that the trailers for it when it was coming to theaters were spoiler heavy. I wasn't really paying attention to what Pixar was doing until 2014. Toy Story 3 was actually one of the few Pixar movies I didn't see in theaters/drive-ins.

I rewatched the commentary for Monsters, Inc. ; they say you're not meant to know he's up to something really awful and are supposed to just think he's cheating.

I've never seen anything indicating they ever had a nice Randall. I know it's something that gets spread around the internet a decent amount, and I know there were times during development where he was more of a cheerfully mean person, but from all the material I've found he was always a jerk.
